Summer Reading

Summer is here! At least it feels like it today. I love to do a lot of reading over the summer, so if anyone can recommend any books, please tell me about them. The New Yorker has a great article on "The Best Novels You've Never Read". I plan to check out at least one on the list. I also try to read one of the classics I haven't gotten to yet.

My recommendations: Janet Evanovich's series on bounty hunter Stephanie Plum

Bel Canto by Anne Patchett

Jim Butcher's Supernatural Detective Series the Dresden Files

J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) "In Death" series about futuristic crime detective Eve Dallas

I love southern writers with quirky humor and even quirkier characters. A few months ago I read Fannie Flagg's newest, "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven"--a fun read!
If you missed her most well known work, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" (a thousand times better than the movie)--it's a must-read!

Another good read is "Heaven Lake" by St. Louis author John Dalton. It's not a quick read, but it's one of those books you don't want to put down.

Another good summer read is anything by Dorthea Benton Frank. Also if you like a cozy series, try Susan Wittig Albert. She writes the China Bayles series and it is great.

Also Anne George ( deceased) wrote the Southern Sisters series. There are about 7 books and they are great if you like and older protagonist. The titles start with Murder... The first in the series is Murder on a Girl's Night Out.
